Summer Camp Assistant

THIS IS A SUMMER ONLY POSITION -  6/22/26 - 8/14/26

Reports To: Executive Director and Program Director

Work Status: Seasonal, Non-Exempt

Pay: $20.00 per hour

The Boys & Girls Club of Webster-Dudley is seeking energetic, responsible individuals to join our summer team. Our Club provides a safe, supportive environment where youth can learn, grow, and build positive relationships with caring adults. Summer Program Staff help create a fun and engaging camp experience through recreational activities, educational programming, and positive mentorship for children ages 5–13.

This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for individuals interested in youth development, education, recreation, or community service.

Program Dates: The summer program operates from June 22 through August 14 2026. Staff will also be required to attend 1–2 days of training the week prior to the start of camp. Specific training dates will be announced in advance.

Schedule Staff may work between 30–40 hours per week during the summer program. Shifts are scheduled between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Staff are encourage but not required to work a 40 hour schedule; however, employees must commit to a consistent schedule. Maintaining a predictable schedule is necessary for the Club to meet supervision and staff-to-youth ratio requirements in accordance with EEC regulations.

Position Summary Summer Program Staff assist with the daily supervision and engagement of youth members in a structured camp environment. Staff help lead activities, support group management, and ensure a safe and positive atmosphere for all participants.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Provide active supervision of youth at all times.

• Lead and assist with recreational, educational, and enrichment activities.

• Support sports, games, arts and crafts, STEAM activities, and other camp programming.

• Assist with field trips and special events.

• Maintain accurate attendance records and conduct regular head counts.

• Promote a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all youth.

• Support behavior management using positive guidance and youth development practices.

• Ensure activities and supervision meet EEC safety and compliance standards.

• Communicate effectively with fellow staff and supervisors..

• Assist with light cleaning and organization of program spaces.

• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors to support daily camp operations.

Qualifications:

Education Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.

College students or individuals currently pursuing a degree in education, recreation, social services, or a related field are encouraged to apply.

Experience Previous work with children in a camp, school, childcare, or youth program setting is preferred but not required.

Requirements:

• Must be at least 18 years of age.

• Ability to work with children in a structured group environment.

• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

• Reliable transportation and dependable attendance.

• Ability to maintain a positive and energetic presence with youth.

Preferred Qualifications:

• CPR and First Aid certification.

• Bilingual (Spanish/English) candidates are encouraged to apply.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Participate in special programs, field trips, and Club events.

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds when necessary.

Background Checks: All applicants must successfully pass a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check, a national background check, and fingerprinting in accordance with EEC regulations.

Working Environment Work is conducted in a Club setting both indoors and outdoors. Staff should be comfortable participating in active programming and maintaining a high level of engagement throughout the day.
